 Short Stops Around the Majors for May 10, 2008
  • Carlos Delgado went 3-for-4 with a home run, and Carlos Beltran singled, tripled, and drove in 5 runs as the Mets doubled up the Reds, 12-6, in game one of a day-night doubleheader. Ryan Freel had 3 hits, and Edwin Encarnacion had 2 hits, a home run, and 2 RBI for Cincinnati.
  • Jeff Keppinger went 5-for-5, Scott Hatteberg collected 3 hits and 3 RBI, and Bronson Arroyo allowed just one run while striking out 9 over 8 innings as the Reds won game two of the twin bill from the Mets, 7-1.
  • Darrell Rasner pitched 6 strong innings, and Derek Jeter had 2 hits, homered, and scored twice as the Yankees beat the Tigers, 5-2.
  • Jose Castillo went 4-for-4 and scored 4 times, Randy Winn, Aaron Rowand, and Omar Vizquel each added 3 hits, and Tim Lincecum gave up just 2 runs on 4 hits over 8 innings as the Giants surprised the Phillies, 8-2.
  • Grady Sizemore doubled, homered twice, scored 3 times, and knocked in 5 runs, and Aaron Laffey threw 7 shutout innings as the Indians blanked the Blue Jays, 12-0. Victor Martinez also had 2 hits and drove in 3 runs for Cleveland.
  • Kevin Millar went 3-for-4 with a home run and 3 RBI, and Melvin Mora added 2 hits and drove in a run as the Orioles held off the Royals, 6-5. David DeJesus reached base 4 times, tripled, and scored twice for Kansas City.
  • Andrew Miller pitched 2-hit ball over 7 scoreless innings, and Dan Uggla hit a grand slam and drove in 5 runs on the day to lead the Marlins to a convincing 11-0 shutout over the Nationals. Cody Ross also homered, walked twice, and scored three times for Florida.
  • Milton Bradley doubled, homered, walked twice and drove in 3 runs, and Josh Hamilton went 3-for-5 as the Rangers defeated the A's, 6-4, for their 5th straight victory.
  • Carlos Quentin singled, doubled, homered, and drove in 3 runs, and Brian Anderson smacked a 3-run blast to help the White Sox get past the Mariners, 8-4. Adrian Beltre had 2 hits, a home run, and 3 RBI for Seattle.
  • Alfonso Soriano picked up 4 hits, and Ryan Dempster struck out 7 over 6 strong innings as the Cubs once again beat up on the Diamondbacks, 7-2. Max Scherzer allowed just one run on 5 hits while striking out 6 in 6 innings for Arizona, but the bullpen gave up 6 runs in the 7th inning, wiping away any chance for a Scherzer victory.
  • Eric Duncan hit a 2-run home run, and Ryan Ludwick hit a 2-out, 2-run single in the 9th inning off Eric Gagne as the Cardinals snuck past the Brewers, 5-3. Ryan Braun had a single and 2 doubles for Milwaukee.
  • Jason Michaels went 3-for-4, Jason Bay doubled, homered and drove in 2 runs, and Ronny Paulino collected 3 RBI as the Pirates knocked off the Braves, 5-2. Tom Gorzelanny held Atlanta to just 2 runs over 7 1/3 innings for Pittsburgh.
  • Scott Kazmir threw 6 shutout innings, and Akinori Iwamura went 3-for-4 to lead the offense as the Rays blanked the Angels for the second consecutive day, 3-0. Los Angeles has only been able to muster 4 hits over their last 18 innings against Tampa Bay.
  • Jed Lowrie and Kevin Youkilis each doubled and homered, and Daisuke Matsuzaka allowed just 2 runs over 7 innings as the Red Sox upended the Twins, 5-2. Mike Lamb had 3 hits for Minnesota.   • Adrian Gonzalez belted a 3-run homer, and Greg Maddux gave up just one run on 3 hits in 6 innings to notch career win #350 and give the Padres to a 3-2 victory over the Rockies.
  • Chris Sampson tossed 7 scoreless innings, and Miguel Tejada and Darin Erstad each drove in 2 runs to lead the Astros to a 5-0 shutout over the Dodgers.
